Who We Are

Did you know that 1910 was the peak of black landownership in the United States and that “black farmers lost 80 percent of their farmland from 1910 to 2007”? (source: Center for American Progress)

In learning of this statistic, my wife and I knew we had to do something to help promote, celebrate and empower the next generation of black landowners. Owning land is crucial to building wealth, especially generational wealth. And for far too long Black-Americans by and large have been sidelined and hampered from owning this critical asset due to long standing, and deeply entrenched institutional racism and lack of access to appropriate capital and other critical resources. Black Landowner Collective was birthed on the idea that owning land should not be a privilege reserved for a small few but rather should be attainable for all who strive to plant roots and build wealth that can be passed on to future generations. Our hope is that not only will you be proud to wear your BLC 1910 apparel, but more importantly you will be inspired to join our mission to promote, celebrate and empower the next generation of black landowners in your community.
